Wonderwall: Behind the Oasis Song and Lyrics

"Wonderwall" is an acoustic guitar song by British rock band Oasis, from their second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Wonderwall was released on October 30 1995 as the follow up to Some Might Say and Roll With It from WTSMG.

Wonderwall  was written by Oasis mainstay and chief song writer Noel Gallagher.  It is considered by many music buffs to be a defining British rock song.

"Wonderwall" single peaked on the UK Singles Charts at number two and proved to be Oasis’ American breakthrough, giving Oasis their only US top 10 hit thus far.

Wonderwall supposedly takes its name from the 1968 album Wonderwall Music by George Harrison. The album was for a film called Wonderwall.

It was originally claimed that the lyrics for "Wonderwall" were written for Gallagher's then-girlfriend, Meg Mathews. Noel married Mathews in 1997, but divorced four years later. Noel Gallagher now claims that the song was not about Mathews at all, but he felt he had to go along with the supposed rumour, saying "The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it. How do you tell your missus it's not about her once she's read it is? The lyric are about an imaginary friend who's gonna come and save you from yourself."

The music video to Wonderwall was filmed in the relatively brief period when bassist Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan quit the band due to nervous exhaustion; Scott McLeod came in to replace him but for some crazy reason chose not to be in Oasis and walked.

The single’s  sleeve artwork was inspired by the paintings of the Belgian surrealist René Magritte, and was shot on Primrose Hill in northwest London. 

The hand holding the frame is that of long time Oasis art director Brian Cannon; the girl is Anita Heryet, a Creation Records employee. The original concept was for Liam to be in the frame before Noel vetoed that idea whilst the shoot was taking place.

Falling Down Single Cover Art and Video

Oasis will release Falling Down as the third single from Dig Out Your Soul. Written and sung by Noel Gallagher, this song has been popular on the current Oasis tour.

The brand new Noel Gallagher-penned song 'Those Swollen Hand Blues' features as new Oasis b-side, a first for the Dig Out Your Soul releases, which have all been remixes so far. 

Falling Down will be physically released on March 9 2009 and digitally a day earlier.

The Prodigy have smacked the bitch of a track into a new sound whilst Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy and Dave Sardy, who previously collaborated on a remix of 'I'm Outta Time', have created a new dance-floor filler! Like wow man, an Oasis dance track. We are thrilled....

Oasis' Go Let It Out Revisited plus Lyrics

"Go Let It Out" is a rock song by legendary band Oasis.

It was released on February 7th 2000 as the first single from the fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. The song peaked at #1 in the UK charts, another number one for writer Noel Gallagher.



The Go Let it Out lyrics are a similar vein to "Roll With It" in that it encourages the listener to get on with their life without being specific about how this is to be achieved. In other words, a typical meaningless Oasis lyric.

The song samples the drums from Johnny Jenkins' version of Dr John's "I Walk on Gilded Splinters". The title may be a reference to the line in "Hey Jude" by The Beatles, "So let it out and let it in, hey, Jude, begin"

The b-side "Let's All Make Believe" has recently been included in several lists as a 'hidden gem', such as Q magazine placing it at number one on its list of '500 best lost tracks' and at 4 on its 'list of songs to download this month - January 2006.' Q magazine said in the description 'If Standing on the Shoulder of Giants had contained this track, it would have probably got another star'. Such is the history of Oasis, that some of their best songs are B Sides - e.g. The Masterplan and Acquice.

This was the first Oasis product to be released via their new Big Brother record label. The catalogue numbers across all formats include RKID 001. Due to new regulations concerning the length of singles in the UK, this was the first Oasis single to only include 2 b-sides.
